STILLWATER, Okla. - One day after nearly knocking off nationally ranked Nebraska, the Bucknell wrestling team continued its Midwest road trip and faced No. 2 Oklahoma State at Gallagher-Iba Arena on Sunday. The Bison lost by a 39-3 score to the Cowboys, with nationally ranked senior Kevin LeValley (Hugo, Colo./Limon) picking up the lone win for Bucknell (1-2).
Oklahoma State (1-0) had eight ranked wrestlers in its lineup, compared to just one for the Bison. Six of those ranked Cowboys were listed in the top 10 of the latest InterMat poll.
LeValley, who is ranked fifth nationally at 149 pounds, had one of his most impressive wins of the young season to improve to 7-0 as he defeated No. 7 Jamal Parks, 6-2. LeValley scored the final six points of the bout, and a three-point near fall in the final 15 seconds of the third period broke a late 2-2 tie.
With his win Sunday, LeValley improved to 2-0 against ranked opponents this year. He defeated then-No. 6 Kurt Kinser in the finals of the Michigan State Open earlier this month. Additionally, he posted a 6-0 win over No. 2 Torsten Gillespie of Edinboro at the NWCA All-Star Classic, a match that doesn't count in his overall season record.
Oklahoma State had seven bonus-point victories among its nine individual wins. Only Brantley Hooks (Spartanburg, S.C./James F. Byrnes), who lost 8-2 at 157 pounds, and Jay Hahn (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley), who lost by an 11-7 margin at 197, kept their scores close enough to warrant decisions.
After its 1-2 road trip, Bucknell will open its home campaign this Friday, Dec. 3, when it hosts No. 15 Lehigh inside Davis Gym. Admission is free, and the highly anticipated matchup will have a live video broadcast on Bison Vision.
