LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell wrestler Shane Riccio (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday, following a four-day stretch where he went 3-0 and picked up his 100th career victory. It is the third career Bison Athlete of the Week honor for Riccio.
The No. 17 ranked wrestler in the nation at 174 pounds, Riccio won by fall, major decision and decision in three bouts last week as he helped Bucknell to a 2-1 record against EIWA foe Brown (W, 28-13), Liberty (W, 30-15) and No. 25 Old Dominion (L, 19-16).
Riccio opened the week by reaching a milestone with his 100th career win. He pinned Brown's Ziad Kharbush in 2:59 to record the victory. He is just the fifth Bison in program history to reach the century mark, joining Bobby Ferraro (118), Andy Rendos (108), Tom Marchetti (106) and David Marble (102). Rendos and Marble both reached the 100-win milestone earlier this year.
At Liberty on Saturday, Riccio posted a 12-3 major decision to pick up his 101st career win. It was his sixth major decision of the year, placing him third on the team.
Riccio completed his perfect week with a 2-1 decision over Old Dominion's Eric Decker on Sunday. The score was tied 1-1 at the conclusion of regulation, but Riccio earned the riding-time point and extended his personal winning streak to four. It marked his 17th victory by decision or major decision where the opponent has failed to eclipse two points.
Riccio owns a 102-45 record in his career, during which he has qualified for the NCAAs twice. He is 27-7 this year, opened the season with a 13-0 mark, won the Navy Classic and has claimed six of his last seven bouts.
The Bison (8-6, 4-0 EIWA), who are in the midst of a five-match road trip, will return to action Sunday at Columbia.
