EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Adam Healey (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) and Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area) recorded pins and Bucknell built an insurmountable 33-0 lead by winning the first eight bouts as the Bison wrestling team posted a 33-10 victory at East Stroudsburg Friday night. The win was the second straight for Bucknell, which finished the regular season with a solid 11-9 record.
In addition to the pins by Healey and Rendos, Bucknell recorded three victories by major decisions as it registered its third-highest team score of the season. It took less than two minutes for both Healey and Rendos to pin their opponents. It was the first pin of the year for Healey, while it was the 19th in Rendos' career, moving him into a tie for 10th place in program history with Robert Greenly, Doug Mays and Gene Santoli.
Derek Reber (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) got things started for the Bison with a 17-5 major decision over David Luthy at 125 pounds. The Bison freshman improved to 28-9 with the win, his 16th dual victory of the year. He is now tied for third in program history in duals wins in a season and he is one win outside of the top 10 for victories in a season. Reber also finished with a perfect 8-0 record in EIWA duals, matching Rendos for best on the team.
David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville Central), who is now 21-0 vs. unranked opponents this season, followed with another major decision at 133 pounds as he defeated Matt Swallow 16-5. Healey then pinned Matt Michaels at 141, giving Bucknell a 14-0 advantage.
The closest bout of the match followed as Kevin LeValley needed overtime to defeat Scott Heckman, 10-5, at 149. LeValley has won his last eight matches against unranked foes.
A 7-2 decision by Scott Sechler (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) and the Rendos pin staked the Bison to a 26-0 lead.
Shane Riccio (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) posted a 10-0 major decision at 174 and David Thompson (West Liberty, Ohio/Graham Local) edged Jeff Jacobs, 3-1, at 184 to round out the winners for the Bison. Riccio has now posted 10 shutout victories by decision or major decision this year.
The win helped Bucknell finish 5-3 against EIWA competition this year, while it is just the fifth time in program history the Bison have posted 11 victories in a season. Bucknell is now 16-7-1 all-time against the Warriors and has won seven of the last eight meetings.
With the regular season now complete, Bucknell will turn its attention to the EIWA Championships. This year's event is hosted by Penn and runs March 7-8. The Bison placed eighth last year after finishing ninth the year before.
