LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's Kevin LeValley (Hugo, Colo./Limon) was named the EIWA Wrestler of the Week and the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week following his 4-1 decision over No. 12 Kyle Borshoff of American on Sunday. It was LeValley's first career win over a ranked opponent.
LeValley, a 149-pounder who owns a 24-10 record this year, had been 0-9 in his career against ranked foes. His decision over Borshoff helped him improve to 1-3 opposite ranked opponents this year. LeValley also joined teammates Andy Rendos and David Marble as the only Bison to post wins against ranked foes in 2008-09. Four of LeValley's last eight individual matches have come against ranked grapplers.
With his win, LeValley helped staked Bucknell to a 10-3 advantage in what turned out to be a 19-17 win for the Bison, who improved to 10-9 overall and clinched a .500 conference record for the third consecutive season.
A sophomore, LeValley is 13-5 in duals this year, tying him with Marble for second on the team. He has six wins by major decision, two by tech. fall and two by fall. In his two-year career, LeValley is 46-24, placing him fourth among current Bison in wins.
LeValley is the second Bucknell wrestler this season to sweep EIWA Wrestler of the Week and the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week. Rendos accomplished the feat in November.
Bucknell will wrap up its regular season this Friday, Feb. 20, at East Stroudsburg. The match is slated for 7 p.m. and LeValley is expected to be in the Bison lineup at 149 pounds.
