
Bucknell Wrestling Suffers 26-7 Setback at No. 15 Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Bucknell wrestling squad closed out its 2007-08 dual meet schedule with a 26-7 loss at No. 15 Cornell on Saturday. With the setback, the Bison finish with a duals record of 9-11-1, 4-4 in the EIWA, while the Big Red improves to 9-5, 6-0 in the EIWA.
Bucknell's two wins on the day came at 141 and 165. In the 141-pound bout, sophomore Luke Chohany (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) began with a 3-0 lead against Nick Bridge and stretched his advantage to 6-1 with an escape and a takedown in the second before Bridge managed to score a takedown in the final period. The 6-3 decision moved Chohany's record to 6-1 against EIWA opponents.
In the 165-pound match-up, sophomore Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area), who is currently ranked No. 19 in the latest InterMat/NWCA/NWMA Division I Individual Rankings, posted his team-best 11th major decision of the season, downing Drake Hovis, 14-2. Rendos opened with a 4-1 advantage after scoring two takedowns in the first period. He then added a takedown and a near fall in the second and outscored Hovis 6-0 in the third, including the riding time point.
At 125, sophomore Greg Hart (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) dropped an 8-4 decision to Mike Rodriguez and, in a battle between two ranked wrestlers, No. 2 Mike Grey of Cornell bested No. 18 sophomore David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville Central), 6-2.
Freshman Kevin LeValley (Hugo, Colo./Limon) suffered a 6-1 setback against DJ Meagher at 149, freshman Jay Hahn (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) lost to Justin Kerber, 6-2, at 197 and Bison heavyweight sophomore George Hingson (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) fell by the score of 8-3 to Maciej Jochym.
Three unranked Bison faced ranked opponents from the Big Red. Sophomore Brantley Hooks (Spartanburg, S.C./James F. Byrnes) dropped a 13-1 major decision to No. 8 Jordan Leen in the 157-pound bout. Sophomore 174-pounder Shane Riccio (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) saw his 14-match duals winning streak come to an end with a 17-7 major decision to No. 10 Steve Anceravage. At 184, freshman David Thompson (West Liberty, Ohio/Graham Local) came up short against No. 17 Josh Arnone, 4-0.
Bucknell will be back in action on March 8, when the squad will begin competition at the EIWA Championships, hosted by Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster, Pa.
