LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) was named the EIWA Wrestler of the Week and the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week following his victory over Missouri's No. 1 ranked Nick Marable on Sunday. Rendos defeated Marable 3-1 in overtime during Bucknell's 25-16 loss to the No. 5 Tigers.
Rendos, who was ranked 17th nationally at 165 pounds last week according to the USA Today/InterMat/NWCA polls, lost to Marable 3-2 during the teams' dual meet last year. The score of Sunday's bout was 1-1 heading into overtime. Neither grappler scored during the one-minute sudden-victory overtime period, but Rendos picked up a pair of points near the conclusion of the first :30 frame. Neither wrestler scored again and a near-capacity crowd at Davis Gym cheered Rendos' upset.
Rendos now has a 6-1 record this year and is 61-18 in his three-year career for a .772 winning percentage, the seventh-best in program history.
This is the third consecutive year Rendos has earned the Bison Athlete of the Week honor at this juncture of the season. Each of the last two years he was cited on the second-to-last Monday of November for winning the Navy Classic.
Bucknell (0-1) and Rendos will travel to Annapolis, Md., for the Navy Classic this weekend. The Bison will then host EIWA foe Army next Monday, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m. A live video broadcast of that dual meet will be broadcast on Bison Vision.
