
Bucknell Women's Water Polo Opens Bucknell Invitational with 11-6 Victory Over Wagner

LEWISBURG, Pa. - After building an early 4-0 lead, the Bucknell women's water polo team cruised to an 11-6 victory over Wagner in the opening game of the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday morning in Kinney Natatorium. With the win, the Bison move to 3-6 on the year, while the Seahawks drop to 5-4.
Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley), the leading scorer on the season for the Orange and Blue, netted two goals in the opening quarter, with one by Jennifer Swoyer (Erie, Pa./McDowell) sandwiched in between to put Bucknell out in front, 3-0. Susan Kingerski (Sugarland, Texas/St. Agnes Academy) then brought the Bison advantage to four with her second of the season.
Wagner cut its deficit in half with two straight tallies, however, Elizabeth Jensen (San Mateo, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) netted her first goal of the contest with just four seconds remaining in the first, to bring the score to 5-2.
Jensen went on to tally both second quarter goals for the Bison and the Orange and Blue pulled away in the third, building an 11-3 advantage behind two goals by Valentina Rozas (Pico Rivera, Calif./El Rancho) and one apiece by Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) and Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley).
Jensen and Rozas finished the contest with a team-high four points each, Jensen on three goals and one assist and Rozas on two goals and two assists. Ginns totaled three goals, while Rowe registered a squad-best four steals. Goalie Mandy Bynum (San Jose, Calif./Leland) made eight saves in the contest.
The Bison will be back in action this afternoon, at 2:15 p.m., when the squad will take on Villanova in its second of four games at the two-day Bucknell Invitational.
