David Marble Selected as the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville Central) of Bucknell University's wrestling squad was selected as the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday after pulling off a come-from-behind upset victory last Saturday at Navy.
Marble battled back from a 6-3 deficit in the third period against the Mids' Joe Baker to win the 133-pound bout, 8-6, over Baker who was 10th in last week's InterMat/NWCA/NWMA Division I Individual Rankings. After beginning the third in the down position, Marble escaped and further trimmed Baker's lead with a stall point shortly after. Then with 15 seconds remaining, Marble completed the comeback with a takedown to jump in front, 7-6, and tacked on his final point with riding time.
Despite falling to No. 19 Navy 31-9 on Saturday, the Bison rebounded with a 49-0 victory over Wagner on Sunday at home in Davis Gym and reached a milestone, matching the program record for wins in a season. The victory was the 11th of the year for the Orange and Blue, the third by shutout, marking just the second time in program history that Bucknell has posted three shutouts in a season. The last Bison squad to do so was co-captained by Bill Graham `62 in 1961-62. Graham's more recent contributions to the program have come off the mat as he played a pivotal role in bringing back wrestling at Bucknell. His generous donation helped the university return the team to varsity status in addition to providing funding for Bison women's athletics programs.
Due to a forfeit at 133, Marble did not wrestle against the Seahawks, but was credited with the win to move to 24-7 on the year, 14-6 in duals. He is now second on the team in overall victories and his dual-meet wins total ranks third among the Bison grapplers.
Bucknell will next travel to Cambridge, Mass., on Saturday, Feb. 17, for its final meet before the EIWA Championships and will face EIWA foes Columbia and Harvard at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively.
