LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sophomore co-captain Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday for the second time in his career after helping the Bucknell wrestling squad to a third-place finish out of 12 teams at the Navy Classic this past Saturday.
For a second straight year, Rendos won the 165-pound title, going 5-0 with three major decisions and one pin. He opened with a 12-3 win over Liberty's Joseph Son, downed Matt DeMichiel of Navy, 11-2, pinned Navy's Chris Mazzatta in 4:37 and advanced to the championship bout with a 13-4 victory over Shawn Putnam of Rutgers. In the final, Rendos posted a 5-4 decision over Chad Porter of Liberty.
Rendos, ranked No. 17 according to last week's InterMat/NWMA/NWCA individual top-20, currently holds an 8-2 record on the season with five major decisions and one win by fall. He is 35-8 overall in one-plus seasons with the Orange and Blue.
Bucknell will be in action tomorrow night, Nov. 20, with its first dual-meet of the season as the Bison will travel to West Point, N.Y., to take on EIWA foe Army at 7 p.m.
