BOSTON, Mass. - The Bucknell wrestling squad rebounded from Saturday's setback to Brown by posting a 28-9 victory over Boston University on Sunday in BU's Case Gymnasium. With the win, the Bison are now back above .500 with a record of 8-7 overall (2-2 EIWA) while the Terriers suffered their first loss of the season to drop to 1-1.
Bucknell found itself down early as Boston University opened with a 6-0 lead after Mike Roberts pinned Jack Conroy (Westport, Conn./Green Farms Academy) four minutes, 50 seconds, into the bout between the 149-pounders.
The Bison responded by posting wins in the next eight matches. Brantley Hooks (Spartanburg, S.C./James F. Byrnes) cut the deficit in half by defeating A.J. Detwiler, 8-6, at 157. Then Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area) tied the team score at six as he blanked C.J. Inglin, 4-0, at 165 for his 13th dual-meet victory of the year.
Shane Riccio (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) and George Mann (Orange, Ohio/Orange) followed and both recorded 7-0 decisions to put the Orange and Blue in front, 12-6. Riccio's came against Alex Brown at 174, while Mann downed Eli Vidal in the 184-pound matchup.
Eric Lapotsky (Mount Carmel, Pa./Mount Carmel Area) recorded his 13th pin of the year 4:05 into his bout against Jim Connors at 197. His win extended Bucknell's lead to 18-6 and moved him into a tie for fifth in Bison history for pins in a season.
Heavyweight George Hingson (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) took the riding time point in his match to edge Orey Hall, 4-3, and Greg Hart (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) clinched the victory for the Orange and Blue by picking up a 4-0 decision over Abbie Rush in the 125-pound bout.
David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville Area) was the eighth and final winner for the Bison as he logged an 8-0 major decision against Joey Whitaker at 133.
Bucknell will return to action next Friday, Jan. 19, when the team will play host to Liberty and Millersville in Davis Gym beginning at 6 p.m.
