WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior Matt Curry (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but the Bucknell baseball team could not hold on as the Bison fell to West Virginia, 10-2, in the team's season opener at Ernie Shore Field on Friday afternoon.
With two outs in the top of the first, senior Kyle Walter (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) and junior Ryan Gryskevicz (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) knocked back-to-back singles. Walter then scored after a stolen base by Gryskevicz forced an errant throw by the Mountaineers' catcher David Carpenter, giving Bucknell a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, the Bison stretched their advantage to 2-0 after Gryskevicz was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on a single to right center by sophomore Jason Buursma (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside School) and later scored on a wild pitch.
