LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman wrestler Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday after helping the Orange and Blue to a fourth-place finish out of 13 squads at the Navy Classic last Saturday.
Rendos won the 165-lb. bracket, going 4-0 on the way to the title. In the opening round, Rendos pinned Navy's Jesse Feinsod in 2:34 and followed up by defeating Brandon Gardner of Delaware State by technical fall, 17-1 (4:21) in the quarterfinals. In his semifinal bout, Rendos, who was the No. 2 seed at the weight, posted a 5-2 decision over Bloomsburg's Ricky Schmelyun and, with a 13-0 lead in the third period of his bout for the championship, Rendos was declared the winner after his opponent, No.-1 seed Trebor Clavette of Davidson, was disqualified for flagrant misconduct.
A, two-time Pennsylvania state champion, Rendos is undefeated so far in his collegiate career as he went 3-0 in Bucknell's quad meet to open the season at Drexel with Maryland and James Madison. Rendos, who holds an overall record of 7-0, upset Jason Kiessling, a fifth-year nationally-ranked senior from Maryland in his first match as a Bison.
Bucknell currently holds a 2-1 duals record and will make its home debut tomorrow, Nov. 21, with a meet against EIWA opponent Army beginning at 7 p.m. in Davis Gym.
