
Lindsey Gentel, Courtney Hill, Jackie Leahy Honored at Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon

Lewisburg, Pa. - Field hockey player Lindsey Gentel (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury), soccer player Courtney Hill (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge), and volleyball player Jackie Leahy (Plainview, N.Y./Bethpage) were honored this afternoon as the athletes of the month for their sports at the Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, sponsored by Curves Fitness for Women and K.I.C.K.S. Self-Defense for Women.
Gentel, a senior defender, was seletcted by her teammates as field hockey's athlete of the month, Head Coach Heather Lewis announced. The senior was selected for her leadership qualities and is one of only two seniors on the squad this season, along with Kate Ruda. She and her teammates defeated Siena last Saturday 1-0 in their only game of the season thus far. The field hockey team plays again on Saturday at Colgate at 1:00 p.m. to open the Patriot League season.
Hill, a sophomore midfielder and defender, was announced by Head Coach Chrissy Findlay as women's soccer's athlete of the month. She contributed two shots as her team defeated Towson 1-0 last Sunday in its first game of the season. The team will follow that up with two games this weekend, at Robert Morris on Friday at 4:30 and at home against Marist on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Leahy, a junior outside hitter, was selected as volleyball's athlete of the month, Head Coach Cindy Opalski announced. Leahy is the team leader in kills so far this season, with 51, as well as in kills per game, at 3.64. The team played difficult competition on its California trip last weekend, returning at 0-4, but will look for its first win of the year this weekend at Loretto, Pa., against Delaware State and St. Francis (Pa.).
The next Curves and K.I.C.K.S. Women's Sports Luncheon will be on October 2, where athletes will be honored for their September performances.
