WASHINGTON, D.C. - Bucknell's wrestling team wrapped up its dual meet season Sunday with a tie and two losses in a quadrangular at American University. The Bison rallied late for a 26-26 tie with American, while falling to Eastern Michigan 30-9 and Virginia 46-4.
The Bison are 2-10-1 heading into the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships at Lehigh March 8-9.
With two bouts remaining in the American contest, Bucknell trailed 26-16 but knew it was going to get six points for a forfeit at 141 pounds in the final match. Thus 133-pounder Josh Perrin needed four points to give the Bison a tie and at least five for a win. Perrin got the four with an 8-0 major decision over Matthew Pelligrino.
Earlier in the match 165-pounder Mike Saunders and 197-pounder Brian Falciglia scored first-period pins, while Brian Neuman picked up a major decision over Kyle Mason at 184.
Falciglia was Bucknell's lone winner against Virginia, defeating Andrew DeMartino by major decision, 12-4. The Cavaliers scored three falls, two major decisions, a tech fall and an injury default en route to the 46-4 rout.
Falciglia made it a 3-0 day with an 8-1 decision over Jason Johnson of Eastern Michigan. Also against EMU, Neuman was a 10-8 winner over Adam Gilmore and 157-pounder Rocky Miller topped Derrick Keasley 4-2.
