Bucknell Women's Cross Country Place First At Gulden Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell University men's and women's cross country teams hosted the Gulden Invitational, Saturday morning. The women's team placed an impressive first place over seven opponents, while the men's team finished third out of a total of eight teams.
Bucknell calculated 33 team points to capture first place in the invitational. The Bison ran above Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Duquesne, Colgate, Detriot Mercy, Canisius, and Quinnipiac. Top women's runners for the Bison included top finisher, Theresa Dennis placing third with her second best time this season of 22:46, on a 6K course. Crossing the line next for the Bison were Kayla Halloran in sixth place (23:41), Nicki Piper in seventh place (23:51), Jamie Gow in eighth place (23:52) and Alison Cole closed the top ten with a time of 23:54.
Also placing in the top 25 for the Bison were Rachel Tutmaher (11th, 24:14), Katie Pfeifer (12th, 24:18), Julie Jakaboski (16th, 24:34) and Lauren Kinsey (17th, 24:36).
"The women ran a fantastic race, the best of the season," stated head coach Kevin Donner. "The girls worked well together as a team and Theresa Dennis had her best showing this season."
On the men's side, Bryan Johnston placed third with a time of 25:02 to help lead the team to a third place team finish. The Bison marked 57 team points, only to fall four points short of second place, Canisius. Crossing the line second for the Orange and Blue was Wes Reinhardt, who captured 10th place with a time of 25:33.
Other top finishers for Bucknell included, Lou Palma (12th, 25:38), Eric Furst (15th, 25:50), Dan Lounsbury (18th, 25:57), and Kevin Brown (21st, 26:04).
"We were shocked when we were beat by Canisius," mentioned Donner. "The coaching staff is glad to see Bryan Johnston running on his level and Lou Palma back on the varsity squad."
Bucknell will return to action when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for the NCAA Pre-National Championship on Saturday, Oct. 19.
