BUCKNELL MEN'S SOCCER GOALIE, TEAM AMONG NATION'S LEADERS
LEWISBURG, Pa. ? Freshman men's soccer goalkeeper Steve Whitaker (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) has broken into the top-5 national rankings for goals against average and save percentage. In addition, the Bucknell team is among the nation's leaders in shutout percentage.
Whitaker has allowed only two goals in 489.4 minutes of play for a 0.37 goals against average, ranking him third in the nation in Division I in that category. The rookie netminder has recorded 37 saves in five games for the fourth highest saves per game average in the country.
On the season, Whitaker has recorded four shutouts in five games played, including three-consecutive. He has gone over 304 minutes of play without allowing a goal.
As a team, Bucknell is ranked 10th in the latest national statistics in shutout percentage. Of BU's ten games on the year, five have been shutouts for a .500 percentage.
The Bison are 5-4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Patriot League. It is the first time a Bucknell men's soccer squad has opened the league ledger 3-0, and only the third time a Bison team has reached three wins in conference play. Bucknell puts its five-game unbeaten streak to the test when it hosts Philadelphia on Tuesday, October 3, at 7:00 p.m.
